You Have Questions, We Have Answers

I'm a beginner.  Can I take this class?

bamboo_shoot_1Absolutely! Bikram Yoga is beginner's yoga.  Everyone takes the same class together and everyone works at their own level.  No matter where you are in your practice, just trying to do the postures to the best of your ability will bring you huge benefits(no matter how you look doing them!).  Keep in mind that you'll need to attend several classes before you can realistically determine if this is for you.

I'm not flexible at all.  Can I do this?

bamboo_shoot_1Definitely.  Bikram Yoga will help you become flexible, and you'll find that you improve just a little with each class.  Everyone works at their own level, and everyone's got something going on with their body.  Some of us may be working towards getting these postures right for the rest of our natural days!  It's the try that counts.

Why is the room so hot?

bamboo_shoot_1The heat helps your muscles relax and allows you to get a much deeper stretch.  It also helps you to sweat out the toxins in your body.

What should I wear?

bamboo_shoot_1Believe us, the less you wear, the more comfortable you'll be and the easier it will be to practice.  Most guys wear a bathing suit or yoga shorts.  Women will be comfortable in a sports bra and shorts or thin leggings.  Anything light and stretchy is good to start with. Avoid big tee shirts or loose shorts (we strecth a lot and you don't want to be showing everything you have, if you know what we mean...). You can also look at the hot yoga clothing that we offer in the boutique.

Will I lose weight?

bamboo_shoot_1Definitely.  You will find that you'll lose inches as well.  You'll burn about 600 calories per class, and the postures will tighten up everything you own.

I'm kinda old.  Is it going to be all 20-somethings in great shape in the class?

bamboo_shoot_1Nope.  Bikram is for everyone.  Each and every body type, any age, any physical shape, good or poor strength, chronic ailments or totally healthy, all will gain multple benefits just from trying their best.  We have all types of people in every class, and we also have a very compassionate, supportive and kind community of people growing here together.

Is it OK to practice Bikram Yoga if I'm pregnant?

bamboo_shoot_1It is recommended that you first speak to your healthcare practitioner. The general rule is that, if you have been going to Bikram classes all along and prior to becoming pregnant, it is safe to continue.  If you are new to Bikram, you should not practice until after the first trimester.  Again, please speak to your healthcare practitioner first.
